Usually ships in 1 business days | | | Markets are abuzz over the rebirth of the day trader. Rather than manaically trading volatile stocks multiple times in a single day, active traders are now holding onto investments longer, relying more on planning and patience rather than fast reflexes. The New Day Trader Advantage features surefire techniques for profiting from this more measured, cunning method of active trading-techniques that will help busy professionals and individuals achieve their investing goals with minimum stress and maximum gain. Written by veteran investment advisor and MSN Money columnist Jon Markman, The New Day Trader Advantage offers successful strategies for discovering, tracking, buying and selling the strongest companies in the best sectors of any economy. This hands-on guide introduces each trading method with compelling, real-life examples that show how the techniques work-then dives into the details of the actual trade from start to finish. You'll learn how to: - Profit on the popularity of a stock's sector, which accounts for up to 60% of its movement
- Know which stocks historically trade way up or way down in particular months of the year-or before or after their quarterly earnings reports
- Buy new IPOs from previously bankrupt companies and make a fortune
- Find information on new offerings and corporate spin-offs and effectively trade them in the first week, month, and year
- Use the author's proprietary stock-rating system to buy five to ten winning stocks a month for six-month holds
- Gain valuable insight by observing a stock's relationship to its ten-month moving average
- Recognize local, national, and global “ecosystems,” and determine where the greatest short-term value is being created
- Sell or sell short at the right time to capture maximum profits
No other book offers the same depth of coverage and expert insight into short-term market forces. By learning how to profit at the right time in the right markets, you can gain The New Day Trader Advantage. | | | |

Nice trading overview, lacking detail Sep 06, 2008 I am not sure who this book will appeal to. Beginners will find it to broad with out useful specifics like position sizing, money management, or the correct psychology. Veteran traders will recognize familiar techniques in trading. Here are the areas this book covers.
1. Examine world market trends to see how the markets are trending. Choose whether you will trade like a bull or bear in the coming week.
2. Watch relative strength charts for sectors, market-cap groups, style, and regions. Trade on the winning side.
3. Go to Markethistory.com for historical seasonal price/volume tendencies for sectors. exchanges, commodities, and stocks. Increase your probability of success.
4. Study all recent initial public offerings for hot new trades if the charts are favorable.
5. Go to MSN Money to find stocks to trade using the StockScouter Top 10 list of the best performers over the past 7 years for fundamental, valuation, ownership, technical, and low volatility factors.
6. Study the current news and world events to spot trends in politics, religion, new types of media, war, peace, or genetic breakthroughs. Put it all together for trading ideas.
Easy read, nice review of well known trading tactics. I would skip this book for Alexander Elder's books, William O'Neal's, or Jesse Livermore's. this is just to basic with out enough details to be truly useful.

The Best Infomercial I Read Apr 08, 2008 If you follow many of the financial newsletters/blogs, you'll come across Jon Markman of msn money ([...]). His articles are pretty impressive, insightful, and if you're a beginner or advanced trader (short or long-term) his articles can be very useful supplement to your market research.
I must say, alike all other reviews, this book is FULL of advertisements, this site, that site, "and with a subscription.." blah blah blah!! Do yourself a favor, READ IT AT THE BOOKSTORE. However! However, Markman does include a lot of great insights and lessons, so I suggest grab a notebook, pen, and jot a few of his ideas down at the bookstore. (Sounds like I'm condoning stealing, which I am not.. just "browsing")
In honesty, all of his arguments are impressive and valid, but how he goes about proving these points, he uses subscription-based services..Not everyone can afford. If you are diligent enough, you can research and find free web services that do the same things. Check your library, work, or educational institution to see if you can grab a free subscription.. I found some at my university library, or find a few investors with similar interests who would also like subscriptions...
3 Stars-lost one for all the junk ad's and one for no solid table of contents...some people, like myself, would rather read this or that chapter of a book, not all of it (Markman breaks it into days of week... Sorry Jon, but it's confusing and a hassle to flip through the chapters to see what you're writing about.)
Thus, overall: solid book, great insights based on market research, Markman knows what he's talking about, but crappy organization and full of ad's) I bought a book so I don't have to deal with ad's, you buffoon :) next book no ad's please!!!

If It Was Easy We'd All Be Rich Mar 26, 2008 The other reviewers seem to believe that the information about paid services are all the book contains. I couldn't disagree more. If anyone has found the book that gave them their first million without any work please Email me so that I can buy it. I'll pay top dollar. This book is what it is. It's a good read with good concepts. I agree that the services mentioned are for those with sufficient funds to use them. However, the vast majority (in the neighborhood of 95%) of the book is useful information for everyone. If you're looking for a way to invest and get rich without working marry someone with lots of money. Otherwise gain knowledge from books similar to this one, figure out your own personal game plan, and take credit for both your good and bad decisions. There is no free ride on the millionaire highway. The same people bashing this book probably love Cramer. I'll tell you I liked this book more and I found more useful information in this book than in any of Cramer's.

Good ideas ruined by sales pitches Mar 20, 2008 The book has some good discussions of the market and ways to scan for general trends. BUT, the big negative is all the pimping the author does for investment websites. It is like one big advertisement. Not recommended....

Got to page 50 and gave up Mar 09, 2008 I was really excited about this book, as I have been very impressed with this guy`s articles on MSN. I am a newby and would like to take a greater role in my investments and want to learn how. I should have known better with the Cramer push on the front cover.
But my experience went along exactly like the previous reviewers. I signed up for the first service he recommended with tons of useful charts and TA so I could follow along with what he was describing, assuming I could use the same site for the rest of the book.
By page 50 there were at least 2 more services I needed to sign up for and by now there was no way. Granted one indicator could be calculated from data provided for free by the Wall Street Journal - but when I looked I was lost in all the massive amounts of statistics.
I wish I could return this book, but I already started scribbling in it.
In the meantime some friends on some Yahoo chat sites have provided some good recommendations which I list below.
